Goose Banding
June 30th - What an exciting day! Went with my 19 year old son on his job for Kansas Dept. of Wildlife and Parks to band geese. This is a yearly event and we ended up banding 140. We also tested them for the avian flu virus and recording any that already had bands from the previous year. I liken it to herding cattle. The geese are molting and cannot fly, so we had to herd them from a point jutting out into the lake and then they swam into a large holding pen. Along with my son, there were several state wildlife biologists present that directed the operation. We began at 6:00 a.m. and were finished by around 8:30.

Great pictures, and what an interesting day you had! Not too many people can say they went "goose banding." I can tell I need to work on my blog a bit more. I went more with a classroom site, but your personal blog will be an awesome "diary" of family events.
ReplyDeleteGreat blog! I wasn't sure what to do with mine so I set it up so that I can use it with my art club and art classes I teach. I had thought about my own personal art instead but I think I could do both on the one I made?!
ReplyDeleteYes, I'm impressed with your blog too!! I need to get some pictures on mine. See you Wednesday.
